Our school trip to Rock Creek Park turned out to be a refreshing break from city life. The students and teachers gathered early in the morning and set out along shady trails framed by towering trees. We hiked past babbling creeks, listened for birds, and learned about the park’s history from a ranger-led talk. Some of the class tried biking on scenic paths while others strolled toward the nature center and ponds.
After lunch under the trees, the kids scattered—with journals, sketchbooks, and cameras in hand—to observe wildflowers, insects, or simply enjoy the peace. We visited the historic ruins of old Civil War-era structures and took in moments of quiet beside the streaming waters. By late afternoon, the group regrouped, excitedly sharing discoveries like turtle sightings and hidden overlooks. It was a day full of learning, connection with nature, and memories that will last well beyond the classroom walls.
